History

The Nebraska Open began in 1992, bringing in 19 sponsors and raising $22,975 for scholarships. The event is endorsed and operated by the Nebraska Section of the PGA and the Nebraska Golf Association, and coordinated by Nebraska Public Power District. More than $1,700,000 has been given as scholarships to students who attend one of the five community college systems within NPPD’s service territory. Proceeds are donated to the Central Community College Foundation, a 501 c (3) charitable organization.

Proceeds are raised by:

  • Sponsorships (NPPD vendors & local businesses)
  • Entry fees (PGA and NGA)
  • NPPD players
  • College representatives

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

More than $1,700,000 has been given as scholarships to students who attend one of the five community college systems within NPPD’s service territory. Proceeds are donated to the Central Community College Foundation, a 501 c (3) charitable organization, with checks being presented to each school in October and November of each year. Scholarships and amounts are determined by each school.

Scholarship money is given to the following community colleges across the state.

  • Central Community College (Columbus, Grand Island & Hastings)
  • Southeast Community College (Beatrice, Milford & Lincoln)
  • Northeast Community College (Norfolk)
  • Mid-Plains Community College (McCook & North Platte)
  • Western Community College (Alliance, Scottsbluff & Sidney)
